A product of a desire for national identity, this beautiful and extravagant theatre was entirely financed with money collected from public donations. The current edifice was inaugurated in 1883. Drama, Opera and Ballet by Czech composers (Smetana, Dvorak, ...) as well as European composers such as Wagner and Bizet are regularly featured here.
